EDB delivers an open source-based, multi-model data platform for new applications, cloud re-platforming, application modernization, and legacy database migration. The EDB Postgres platform integrates the core EDB Postgres DBMS with adjacent technologies for hybrid cloud management, data integration, and data warehouse.
Features and Benefits
The database container provides the EDB Postgres Advanced Server database in a highly available setup based on Postgres’ streaming replication. The container image is used to setup the database master and its replicas. The container also configures EDB Postgres Failover Manager to detect failures and automatically initiate a failover to a replica to maximize uptime.
The database container also includes and configures pgpool-II for load balancing. Write requests will be directed to the master while read requests can be served by any of the read replicas improving both write and read availability.
A dedicated container is provided for EDB Postgres Backup and Recovery. It automates and schedules regular online backups making them available for restore in case of a failure. The backups also will be used to create additional read replicas minimizing the impact on the master.
The EDB Postgres integration with OpenShift uses Persistent Volume Claims for the Postgres data directory, WAL archives and backup files to secure the data across container shutdowns and failures.
The EDB Postgres container images will be listed in the Red Hat Container Catalog and available to be pulled from the Red Hat Container Repository upon GA.
